Account Deletion
This page explains how to delete your Suviy account and what happens to your data afterwards. It is the canonical deletion page referenced from app store listings (Google Play Data safety, Apple App Store) and is reachable without signing in or installing the app.
Suviy is operated by an independent developer based in Ukraine. For deletion or privacy questions you can always reach us at support@suviy.app (general) or privacy@suviy.app (privacy / GDPR).
1. How to request deletion
1.1 From inside the app
If you have the app installed and can sign in: open Profile → Account → Delete account, confirm it is you (with your password, or by choosing your Google account again if you signed up with Google), and confirm the deletion. You will receive an email with a cancel link in case you change your mind during the grace period (see § 2).
On the website it works the same way: sign in and open Account → Delete account.
1.2 Without the app (web form)
If the app is not installed, or you cannot sign in (forgotten password, lost device, account locked), use our public deletion form at https://suviy.com/en/account/delete-request. Enter the email address attached to your account and we will send a confirmation link to that address. Click the link within 60 minutes to start deletion. This is the same flow Apple and Google require for app stores.
1.3 By email (manual channel)
If neither option above works for you, write to support@suviy.app from the email address attached to your account and ask us to delete it. Please include the words "delete account" in the subject so we can route it to the right queue. We verify the request by replying to that email address (or, if necessary, sending a confirmation link) and then process it within 30 days. We never charge for deletion requests.
1.4 Anonymous accounts (no email)
If you have only used Suviy anonymously, the account is tied to a random device_id generated on your device — there is no email
and no password. To request deletion, email privacy@suviy.app with the device_id shown in
Profile → About. We process anonymous-account requests manually within 30 days. Uninstalling the app or clearing app data on the
device does not delete server-side rows on its own — the manual request is the way to be sure.
2. What happens after a deletion request
- Immediately: the account is locked. Active sessions are invalidated, refresh tokens are revoked, and you can no longer sign in. The account is marked as pending deletion.
- For the next 14 days (grace period): you can cancel the deletion using the link in the confirmation email we sent. This is a safety window so that accidental or compromised-account requests can be reversed.
- After 14 days: a background job permanently purges all data tied to your user (see § 3). Database deletions are transactional and use ON DELETE CASCADE, so related rows are removed atomically.
- Final email: you receive one confirmation email that deletion is complete. After that we will not contact you again at that address.
3. What is deleted and what is kept
3.1 Deleted permanently after the 14-day grace
| Category | What it is |
|---|---|
| Account | Email, password hash, display name, avatar (both the stored URL and any uploaded avatar image file), account row itself. |
| Preferences & settings | App language, theme, focus country, source-language overrides, followed topics, source subscriptions. |
| Activity | Reading history (which articles, time spent, scroll depth), favorites, reactions, comments, dismissed articles, and the log of which articles the feed showed you. |
| Saved topics | The text of each topic you saved (“My topics”), its order, and its notification settings. |
| Notifications | Push tokens with the device time zone stored alongside them, in-app notifications and whether you opened them, and the record of which articles a topic notification covered. |
| AI usage | Logs of AI features you used (Summarize, Translate) — used for quota and abuse prevention. |
| Tokens | Refresh tokens and OTP codes tied to the account. |
| Subscriptions | In-app subscription bookkeeping rows (the store receipt itself lives with Apple / Google). |
| Email audit (account-linked) | Outgoing email log entries tied to your account (verification, password reset, deletion-request, etc.). The final deletion-confirmation email is logged separately — see § 3.2. |
3.2 Kept after deletion
| Category | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous deletion audit row (random UUID, request method, timestamps — no email, no name) | Fraud auditing and to prove the deletion happened | 1 year, then deleted automatically |
| Final deletion-confirmation email log row (recipient email address + send timestamp; not linked back to any user record) | Audit that the final notification was actually delivered; we send this email after the user record is already purged, so the log entry exists without a user link | Up to 90 days (default emails:cleanup retention), then deleted automatically |
Device record (random device_id, device model name, platform, app version; no longer linked to any account) |
Recognising the device if the app is used on it again | Until 90 days after the device was last seen, then deleted automatically |
| Encrypted database backups | Operational rollback | Up to 30 days; your data rolls out of backups as they cycle |
| Sentry error reports (if you ever triggered one) | Operational error tracking; Sentry is configured not to attach your email or auth headers | 90 days, then Sentry deletes automatically |
Store-side receipts (Google Play, App Store) for any in-app subscriptions are kept by the store under their own retention rules — we do not control those. To revoke a recurring subscription, cancel it in your Google Play or App Store account before requesting deletion.
4. What is not covered by app deletion
- Local app data on your device. Uninstalling the app removes local caches; it does not by itself trigger server-side deletion. Use one of the channels in § 1 for that.
- News articles themselves. Suviy aggregates news from public sources. Article texts in our cache are not personal data and stay in the cache regardless of who has accounts.
- Emails already delivered. Transactional emails (verification, deletion confirmation, etc.) sent before deletion remain in your inbox until you delete them yourself.
